Editing Blog

The first day of editing was stressful. Bianca got the laptop for us. We got the SD reader and got the SD card. We dumped all the footage onto our laptop. We checked over all the clips. Then we realized that one of our scenes wasn’t there. I was confused because I thought we recorded all of it. We started to stress out because we only had one more day to edit. We started to think what we could do to fix it. I thought about just closing up to a picture of a radio.
We couldn’t do that because then it wouldn’t match up to the rest of the video. It would look weird if we did that. We decided that we were going to reshoot. Bianca texted her friend to reshoot with us the next day. We waited for an answer. I texted my friend to come with us to reshoot the scene. Bianca texted her other friend that was in the video if she could reshoot. Her friend didn’t answer, so we had to do it without her. My friend said that she could come with us to reshoot. The scene we had to reshoot was at the park.
If thought we didn’t have the footage we had to start editing. We edited all the other scenes together and we just needed to get the scene we missed. The next day that we had to reshoot, we all had lacrosse practice. We didn’t want to miss it, so we were going to leave practice early. We left practice and did the reshoot. Today was the second day we had to edit. We got the scenes and started to edit all of it together. We added the music, but we had to ask one of our peers for help with it. We finally added and cut the music. Bianca was trying to move the scenes to Track 2, but couldn’t because the music was going with it. I saw that she was getting stressed out. I offered her my help and she gave me the laptop to do it. I moved the music and scenes to their right Tracks. We didn’t finish editing, the video was shorter than the song. We have to do it next class and finish it.

Filming Blog

Bianca and I planned on filming on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday we walked from school to the park with our friends. Our friends were going to be the backup dancers. We got to the park and set up by the area with the tables. We put our bags down and set up the camera and tripod. We took out the story board to see what we had to film. We asked our friends if they could come with us to the beach to film. They said that they couldn’t because they were busy. Bianca and I realized that we wouldn’t have anybody for the beach scenes. We were stressed out and trying to come up with a plan on what to do. One of my friends suggested that we do the music video with Barbie’s. We considered it, but then we saw that we would have to buy the dolls and all of the stuff.
We realized that it was too much money. We were stressing out on what to do. We wasted about 30 minutes trying to figure something out. We decided to not do the scenes at the beach and just do it at the park. We had to hurry because we were all leaving at 4:30. For our first scene we needed a car, but we didn’t have one. Bianca tried to figure something out. We ended up cutting out the car scene. We started to film the first part. I came up with the idea of maybe using paper balls, so that the backup dancers could through them at each other to show that they were having fun. We filmed that part with the paper balls and then did the part with the radio.
Since we couldn’t do the scenes at the beach we decided to go to the part of the park where there were trees. We told our friends to act like the were playing around and throwing paper balls at each other. We had the main singer do her part of the beach scenes, but instead do it by the trees. We saw that the camera was running out of battery. We didn’t have anywhere to charge it. We were on a time limit, so we had to work quickly. We had the backup dancers go into a circle and pretend to be gossiping about the main singers shoes. Then we did a shot where it went from the main singer to the backup dancers shoes. We had to film the last scene quickly because the battery was dying. We finished everything on time.

Filming Blog

When we first got this project we planned on filming on the 23rd and 24th. We then started to realize that there were obstacles. Bianca first asked her friends if they wanted to be in the music video. We didn’t want to be in the music video, so we needed to ask friends to be in it. Only a few of her friends answered not all of them. She also texted some of her friends separately to see if they would answer. They first agreed to being in the music video. Then Bianca told them the plan and they quit. This meant that I had to ask my friends to be in the music video. I chose a bunch of my friends and made a group chat. We also asked our friends from lacrosse if they wanted to be in the music video.
I told them that I needed people to be in my music video. All of them answered, but I needed more people to be in it. I added people to the chat and asked they all agreed to being in it. Bianca got in touch with me and told me to make a group chat with her in it. I made one and we started to tell my friends our plan. The plan was that we were going to film in the 23rd and 24th. We then realized we couldn’t because all of my friends were busy and had things to do in the 23rd and 24th. I had to babysit on the 23rd in the morning which was the only time Bianca was available. On the 24th Bianca couldn’t either because she had to watch her brother. This meant that we couldn’t film over the weekend and had to film during Thanksgiving break.
We decided to film on Tuesday and Wednesday, but then Bianca couldn’t do anything on Wednesday. We moved it to Tuesday and Friday. The people that could do it on Tuesday couldn’t do it on Friday. Then the people that could do it on Friday couldn’t do it on Tuesday. We weren’t going to film on Monday because both Bianca and I have lacrosse practice. Then we got a remind from our coach saying that lacrosse practice was canceled on Monday. Now we are planning on filming in Monday, Tuesday and Friday. I have to ask my friends when they can come, so that we can film. Bianca is going to have to miss her study hall to edit.

Storyboard Blog

We started our story board on the 18th and we got to write two blocks. We couldn't finish in time, so we had to finish it today in class. This morning in class we debated on how our story board should be set up. We struggled deciding between certain scenes and how long the video was supposed to be. We ended up drawing multiple scenes on the story board template. We also threw away some story boards because we didn't like them anymore. After we decided what we wanted we wrote it all down. While we were writing it we came up with new ideas. We then had to stop writing and decided what we wanted. After we finished writing we took turns drawing out the scenes.
While we were starting our blog we realized we didn't have the shots written on the story board. We then stopped writing our blog to write the shots down for future use. Our first storyboard template was easy to map out. This first template is the park scenes. After we wrote and drew everything out we went back and added cut scenes and shots to our story board. We decided to have a long shot, pan shot, tracking shot, mid shot, close up, zoom shot, low angle plus tilt. Then we went back and decided how many cut scenes we would have, which was between four to five. For our second story board template we switched to the beach scenes. We start with a mid to long shot. Then we switched into a pan shot, then cut to an over the shoulder shot. There will be five cut scenes.
In our last story board template we are at the beach at night. We start with a medium close shot, which transitions into a long shot. Then we have an extreme close up and a medium shot together. After that scene we have a long shot. The long shot then switches to a medium shot and eye level shot. This then switches back into a long shot. For our very last shot we have a zoom shot facing the water and or the moon. The video will end with the moon fading out. There will be three to four cut scenes.

Planning Blog for the Music Video

1) Location-We will be at the beach for the sunrise and sunset scenes. We will also be at the beach to record dances. These we will check if they go with the final film. We will be at the park where we will shoot the middle of our video. Majority of our dance scenes will be shot at the park.
2) Health & Safety-On the way to the park and the beach we will have our seatbelts on. Also during the cab videos we will also have our seatbelts on. At the beach we will have sunblock. On top of the sunblock we will also carry aloe vera incase someone gets sunburned. Also for the park and beach a First-Aid kit will be handy. In our First-Aid kit we will have band-aids, tweezers and hydrogen peroxide.
3) Props-In the beginning of the video one of the props will be a taxi hat. We will have a speaker at the park for the middle of the video. Towards the end of our video we are going to use sparklers at the beach. Sunglasses will be worn throughout most of the video.
4) Costumes-The main singer will be wearing old country clothes. The back up dancers will be wearing high end "hollywood" style clothes. The clothes will be based around sundress's, high-heels and business casual outfits. Towards the middle of the video we will switch to the beach scene. This is where our dancers will be wearing shorts, tank tops and flip flops.
5) Schedule-For the first week of the project my partner and I will be story boarding. We will also be planning the video. For the first weekend the dancers will be learning the choreography. The following week we will be filming. We will also possibly edit. If we don't have the scenes that we want by the end of Thanksgiving break we will reshoot and re-edit before it's due.

Intro to New Project Music Video

Today we are starting on our new project which is the music video. We are done with the commercial project. Storyboarding worked really well for us in our commercial because it shortened the amount of time we spent filming. Storyboarding is something that we will be utilizing in our music video. I am very excited to start this project. I am working with a different group for this project. I’m excited to use the some of the props that we’ll be using.
We chose the song Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. We chose the song because it's nostalgic to our childhood. It will also bring back happy memories and make it more exciting. The genre of the song is pop. The song was released in 2009. This means that we will have to go back to our 2009 childhood and remember what made 2009 different than our time today. The song goes back to our elementary school days when times were easier and when we had more fun. Since we had more fun a small the song is a pop song, it will be very easy to recreate this video in our own perspective because our 2009 selves were so light hearted and care free which is what pop feels like.
     1) Costumes- our costumes will be based around the style of clothing in 2009, and mixed with expensive outfits. We chose to do it this way and not remake it for our time, a decade later because we wanted to feel the nostalgia of our childhood and because it took place in Hollywood originally and even though we don't want to recreate the video completely, we still want to follow the lyrics of the song.
2) Lighting- the lighting will be varied throughout the entire video because we will be shooting at different times a day on different days. This will work with the video because it will give it a storyline feel.
3) Actors- We will be using the help of our teenage friends for the dancing and acting. Since in a teenage music video, there are usually many people, it wouldn't make sense to have one person in the entire video. Since there are only two of us as a team, one person would have to be shooting while the other acts, which wouldn't make for a good video.
4)Makeup- Our actors will be wearing basic makeup, like mascara and light eye shadow to replicate the 2009 pop culture vibes. This will call for a lot of research to figure out how 2009 teenagers used makeup.
5) Props- Our props will consist of sparkers when it gets darker, a speaker to show the music that would play, and a taxi driver type of hat. We chose these to stay as close to the lyrics as we can.
6) Setting- We will be shooting our music video at the beach around sunset and sunrise for the beginning and end of the video, as well as dancing. We will also have it around a park near the school for the cab scenes and for the dancing, and also downtown for the tall building and city feel of Hollywood.
7) The camera angles will be shot from far away, low angles, and tracking shots. The sound will be the music playing for the video. We will have to edit a lot in Pinnacle Studios to have our scenes together. This will take time after the filming which we are hoping to have.

Editing Blog

Today in class, we starting the editing process. The class had to take shifts on the computer because there weren’t enough computers for the whole class. My group got a computer to work on. We first dumped our footage from the SD card to the computer. Kyndell had the SD card and we asked for the SD card reader. We moved our footage to the folder we created. We went onto Pinnacle Studios and imported our footage. There was a video on Pinnacle Studios and we didn’t know how to remove it, so we asked our teacher to remove it. After that we started by moving our footage to Track 2. We waited for it to load and then we played all of our footage to see what we wanted to cut.
We forgot how to cut the footage but then we figured it out and started to make cuts. I helped cut the second scene of our commercial. This was the easiest scene to edit. I helped to make the transition where Bianca turned around at the end. We had to cut it perfectly, so that it had the effect of Bianca turning around from two different views. I also had to cut out the parts where u could hear us say “cut” and “action”. Bianca accidentally clicked on something and two arrows came up at the sides we didn’t know what it was. We asked our teachers and they told us to just move it to the sides. We continued editing the second scene and moved onto the first scene. This scene was harder to edit because we had a lot of clips.
The next day in class Bianca wasn’t at school, so it was just me and Kyndell. All we had to do was finish editing the first scene, add the title and add music. Kyndell got us a computer and we started to edit. Everything was put together all we had to do was cut out the parts where you could hear Bianca. When we finished that we moved on to making the transition between the scenes. After we finished I did the title. We chose a transition between the title and the first scene. Once we finished that we looked for the music. We didn’t know how to add the music, so we had to leave it without the music. We finished right before the bell rang.

Editing the Commercial

Today I got into class. I was excited to edit the commercial. We went to the computer that we dumped our footage on. Bianca logged into the computer. Another group used the same computer to dump their footage. They just went to another computer. We clicked on the folder that we created. Then we got onto pinnacle studio. It was asking for the login. We didn’t know what it was.
We called over our teacher and she put it in. The login worked but it just went back to the folder. We clicked on pinnacle studios again and it asked for the login. I went to ask Mr.Katz to log us in. He told me to give him a second. I went and sat back down to wait. He came over to help us. Suddenly pinnacle studio opened up. We tried to import our footage. The folder that we put our footage in wasn’t there.
We tried every folder but none of them opened. Then we tried to drag our footage. That didn’t work. We asked the teacher what to do. She told us to not worry about it. Some other computers weren’t working either. Then she told us to write our blog. She made announcements saying to just start the blog. I was worried that we were gonna get a failing grade. She told us that we weren’t gonna fail because most of the computers weren’t working.

Filming Blog

Today in class we started the filming process. We signed out our camera and went outside to start filming. Our first location was the senior patio. We setup our camera and tripod. I was going to be in the scene so I had to get into my position. I practiced my part of the scene because I had to come in on a certain time. We did a practice shot first. Then we did a shot with the tripod and I had to speak loudly. I had to hand over the coffee and then walk away. We did a bunch of different angles of me handing over the coffee.
I had to make sure that the Dunkin’ Donuts logo was facing the camera. That meant that I had to hand Kyndell the drink in a certain way for the logo to face the camera. We finished the first scene then we went to our next location which was between building 20 and 21. I was the one to film this time. When we got to our spot we changed into our school spirit shirts. We discussed how we were gonna film. I had to do a track shot and then tilt the camera. It was kind of challenging so I had to do a few shots. Then I had to take a bunch of shots of Bianca walking because I had to follow her. The scene with Kyndell handing Bianca the coffee took me a few shots because they weren’t both in the shot.
Then we were gonna have Bianca face the camera and say her line. Kyndell had an idea for the scene to make it look cool. Bianca had to turn around and then turn away from the camera. I would then stop recording and go to where Bianca was facing. Then I would press record and have Bianca turn again so that it would look like I turned around with her. This took us a few tries because Bianca forgot to turn the other way. I had to remember to stop the recording so that we didn’t have to do it again. We then did the original shot where Bianca would just turn and face the camera. I finally got all the shots that I needed for that scene. We went back to the room to dump.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class, I came in and saw that we had a lesson on editing. It was a very important lesson. I got ready to take notes because my teachers were only gonna show us this one time. I learned about how to check out a camera and how to use it. I learned how to dump which is taking footage from the camera and moving it to the computer. You do this by getting your SD card reader and moving the footage into a folder. After this we learned how to import which is getting all your takes and importing it into pinnacle studio. To do this you go onto pinnacle studio and click on the import button. Then you click on desktop and look for the folder you have all your takes in. You check off what you wanna import and then you go to edit.
My teacher said that it’s better to check off everything. The footage that is unedited is called raw footage. I learned what goes in each track. In AV Track 1 you put the title. In AV Track 2 you put your footage. In AV Track 3 you put your sound or music. Then I learned how to cut footage. Doing the transitions and title was the easiest. To delete audio you have to click on the audio. Then you detach it and put it in Track 3 and delete it.
To export your finished project you first click on the export button. Then you click on the settings and choose the one that you would like. You then start to export it by saving it to desktop MP4. Before clicking off of pinnacle studio first minimize it. Then click on the folder you created and check if you saved your project. Exporting is only if you finished your project. If your still working on a project and want to save it you just click on the file. Then click save and it to you folder. After we wrote down everything in our notes we packed up. The bell rang and I left to go to my next class.

Our vision for the Dunkin’ Donuts commercial is to show the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee as an energizer for students at Fort Lauderdale High School. For example having the coffee will make the students feel more energized and more ready to do homework and get to class and be ready for their sports. We will be sure to get the coffee the day filming starts from the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shop and also get a cold brew Dunkin’ Donuts from our school vending machines. This will Make it easier to market this product because it will show many forms of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee make it easier to market this product because it will show many forms of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

Research Conventions & Codes

Today I came into class on time. I sat where I usually sit which is right by the door. I went on my phone until class started. Mrs.Marchionne started to talk about the blog posts. Then Mr.Katz came in late and added onto the subject. They told us that it was really important to do all of our blogs because it’s a big part of our grade.
After they finished talking about the blog posts they went on to talk about the commercial project. I am kind of excited for the project. Luckily I have two friends in this class that I can work with. The project is gonna be kind of hard for me because i’m not the best at editing. I’m going to have to learn because if not i’m going to get a bad grade on it and i don’t want to leave my friends doing all the work.We chose to do a commercial on the cheer team. One of my friends is on the cheer team, so she’s gonna ask the girls on the team if they can be in it. I think we are gonna do good on the project because the last time we did a project together we did well on it.
After my teachers were done explaining the whole project they said that we had a blog due today. The people that didn’t do the first one had to do the first one plus the one that was due today. I started typing my first one because I didn’t do it, so I was rushing to type mine. That was my fault because i should’ve done it, but i finished and turned it in. There were a few minutes left of class then the bell rang and I left to go to my next class.

Introductory

Today in class I came in later than i usually would. We analyzed Mr.Robot as a practice test. I thought that it would’ve been boring, but I was actually interested in the show. We watched 5 minutes of the first episode. We had a paper that made us list 10 angles or movements that we saw in the show. We rewatched the show three times and had two minutes in between each to write what we saw.
For the first time we watched it we couldn’t write down anything, but for the rest we could write down what we saw. Angles and movements was easy for me to list because I remembered most of the angles and movements but I couldn’t name all ten I just named nine. Listing the editing that I saw in the show was hard because I couldn’t remember any editing, so I only listed a few. I think that i did better on the front side of the test than the backside. Now I know what I need to study and learn. Mis-en-scene was the hardest for me because I barely knew about it.
After we finished the practice test I wrote down in my agenda to study and read my notes. I also wrote down to watch TV and analyze what I saw. I turned in my paper and started to pack up. We only had a few more minutes of class. I went on my phone for the rest of the period. The bell ringed and I left to go to my next class.
